How to prepare for ESE Exam?

Welcome to today’s blog...

Let’s today talk about what is ESE, Departments you can work in and how to prepare for it.

What is ESE?

It is an exam conducted by UPSC for Engineering aspirants those who want to join Govt. sector as a first-class officers/class A officers 👮. The exam provides you with a great opportunity to join the high-class Govt. sectors. The selection of Departments depends upon the cut off marks of the specific year. In my previous blog “ESE or GATE” I explained that there are three milestones of the exam beginning with prelims which are categorized into two exams: the first one is of General studies and another one is Technical paper (specific to your domain, e.g. mechanical, electrical, etc). The general studies exam accounts for several topics such as material science, machine drawing, ethics, etc. The topics can be referred by the official website of UPSC. Marks for each G.S topic may range from 5% to 15% of the total marks in the paper.

I receive so many queries about whether general studies exam is important or not. Firstly, it is an exam which, itself means it is important; however, you can make a weightage difference in both the papers, i.e., general studies and technical paper. More explicitly, the general studies paper provides you with an advantage if you score a higher mark, might it not go the same for the technical paper as compared to the general studies paper. Thus, if you try hard for G.S and score 100-120 marks out of 200 I can ensure that you will receive a good mark in total, i.e., way above cut off. But you also have to work hard for the technical paper. After you cleared prelims you have to prepare for the mains exam which is in total technical exam respective to your domain. To prepare for the mains exam you will have 3-4 months of time the paper would be subjective. Later to it, you will have an interview with the ministry members at UPSC Delhi.
