How to prepare for GATE?

Let's talk about how to effectively prepare for the GATE Examination => I will list down the preparation steps and strategy to prepare for the exam.

My opinion "Prepare for the GATE Exam only when you want to work as a hardcore engineer"; otherwise, there are several options such as AFCAT, CAT, XAT, MAT, GMAT, etc. Kindly, don't quote me on this its totally my perspective.

First of all, it's a good choice to start the preparation of the GATE Exam when you are in your third year of the Bachelors. It requires an extensive study/dedication towards the preparation. Predominantly, the exams require concepts, application of the topics, strong basics of maths & aptitude and plus smart thinking (lateral thinking). The exam posses more weightage in the following topics such as maths, production, theory of machines, strength of materials, etc. The preparation should be in such a way that you can complete the course once, until, you reach the fourth year. Imagine you own strong concepts and application then start with practising old papers of GATE this will increase the process in practice and you can visualize the level of questions. At least you should practice the old GATE papers two times this will also help you in building the confidence, how to solve the questions in a stipulated time and the questions you can expect. While solving the old papers you will encounter some questions which you will feel are difficult / you cannot solve them at once so please mark them; thus, next time you know that these were the questions/topic you couldn't solve at once. I can ensure you this will certainly help you in the final days of preparation. Next, if you don't understand any topic refers to the fundamental books. If you don't know which book to follow there is a list of book on the official website of IIT. In addition to it, you can also follow the NPTEL lecture if you still have doubt about it. So many people ask me whether to make short notes or not it totally depends on you; however, I would suggest you make notes for formulae because the formula sheet will certainly help you in the last minute of preparation. 

Therefore, if you follow the preparation steps mentioned by the year of engineering you have remarkably higher chance to crack the GATE with a good GATE score. The preparation of this exam will also help you in the exams such as ISRO, Technical entry of UES and State Exams. I have experienced a lot of competitive exams including GATE, ISRO, Ordnance factory and ESE, etc. One suggestion doesn't study on the last day give some rest to your mind listen to music and have mental peace.
